TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
The present invention relates to a monitoring system for monitoring the usage of smart packaging (package) content, as well as a method for monitoring such usage of smart packaging content. STATUS OF THE TECHNIQUE OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
The prior art presents various provisions for monitoring the use of medication packaging contents, such as, for example, a solution presented by Wachnam et al. in their patent application publication document number US 2010/0270257, in which the cap of a medication bottle is provided with detection elements for monitoring cap opening. As an opening result, the lid of a medication bottle is in data communication, for example via a modem, with a third party, such as a database.
A problem with such solutions is that medication packages and detection elements presented therein are highly complicated and expensive to use. In addition, these packages are not very environmentally friendly, due to the fact that, among other things, the aforementioned lid of a medication bottle contains a number of high electronic standards with its inherent display units and components. As a result, such packages are not recyclable or, for example, cannot be incinerated among normal combustible wastes, due to the fact that the electronic components used in them contain metals and other environmentally harmful (hazardous) substances. In addition, such packages are inconvenient for transport, being bulky and requiring, for example, the use of a modem. In addition, they are very easily circumvented (falsified), due to the fact that the monitoring system does not have, for example, ability to distinguish whether a medicine (medicine) was extracted from the medicine bottle or if the lid was merely opened for some particular purpose. In addition, the lid can be opened by an individual other than the intended user of the Medication Container, and even the system cannot fully determine with certainty who actually opened the lid. SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to eliminate or at least alleviate the disadvantages related to the prior art. In accordance with one embodiment, the present invention seeks to provide a monitoring system as environmentally friendly as possible, and which, however, should be as simple and convenient as possible to implement, and that an intelligent medication package used in the monitoring system should be recyclable after use.
A further aim of the present invention is to provide such a monitoring system, which could give assurance of a higher probability that it was definitely the intended user of the medication package who took a medication (medicine), and that the medication it was definitely extracted out of the packaging. Another objective of the present invention is that the monitoring should be highly transparent to the user and that the system should be easily and imperceptible to use as those normal daily tasks.
Some objectives of the present invention are achieved by a monitoring system in accordance with the accompanying independent patent claim 1 .
The monitoring system of the present invention is characterized by the fact that what is presented in the accompanying independent patent claim 1 directed to a monitoring system. The method of the present invention for monitoring smart packaging content usage is characterized by the fact that what is presented in the accompanying independent patent claim 10 directed to a method for monitoring smart packaging content usage.
The present invention relates to a monitoring system for monitoring the use of smart packaging content, wherein the monitoring system comprises: a smart packaging, comprising removable content units, such as pill-type or tablet-type objects , for example, medicinal pills, and as well as most preferably wireless communication elements; and database elements.
The smart package is preferably adapted to detect said removal of a content unit and to supply information to said database elements via said communication elements regarding the removal of said content unit. Said smart package is identifiable by the database elements on the basis of information thus delivered on said communication elements. The smart package is capable of transmitting, for example, a package identification string, or optionally its communication elements can transmit a distinct identification message in conjunction with the transmission of information.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the monitoring system has its smart packaging provided with a specific sensing element for each content unit, such as a pill, for detection of removal of this particular pill. The smart package is most preferably adapted to detect and identify, via said sensing elements, the removal of a specific pill corresponding to a sensing element, and to deliver information, via the communication elements, related to the removal of exactly this particular pill. The sensing elements are most preferably provided on a support (support) of the smart package, onto which they can be pressed by printing technology methods.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a sensing element designated for pill comprises a component, such as a resistor, capacitor, switch and/or conductor line, which is most preferably manufactured by printing technology methods. The specific electrical values, such as resistance or capacitance, of at least two printed components present on the support can be arranged, for example, with printing technology methods, to be different from each other, in such a way that the removal of a pill materializes around a change in the structure of a particular component, whereby the removable content unit producing said change can be identified on the basis of the
magnitude of a change in the specific electrical value inherent in that component, such as, for example, a change in resistance or capacitance.
In addition, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the communication elements most preferably comprise wireless communication elements, such as a GPS, GPRS or UMTS module, or some other data transfer module functional in a data transfer network, also comprising 10 latest data transfer technologies such as 3G and 4G techniques. The smart package may further comprise a smart package identification element, such as ID information stored in a memory, or for example a pluggable SIM card 15 for a data transfer module.
The smart package may additionally also comprise positioning elements, such as, for example, a GPS receiver, or most preferably a module for receiving location data delivered by cellular information from a mobile communication network. Said module can be, for example, the aforementioned data transfer module operating in a mobile communication network, for example, a GSM module or the like.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the monitoring system has its database elements comprising features for connecting the smart package identification information for the smart package user into the database elements. In addition, the system may comprise elements for connecting a smart package content usage instruction to said smart package identification information in the database element, and as well as communication elements for delivering related content usage instructions. either for the smart packaging and/or for some other user terminal, such as, for example, for the user's mobile communicator. In this case, the monitoring system can comprise said terminal unit as such.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the database elements of the monitoring system may deliver a warning instruction to use smart packaging content, for example, in the event that the database elements have not received information from the smart package considering the use of smart package content within a pre-determined time frame. It should be noted that the warning instruction can be delivered either to the smart packaging or to the user's mobile communicator or to both. The instruction may also be delivered to some other terminal unit, such as, for example, to a protector of the user of a medication package or to his/her health care provider, or to an insurance company.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the smart package may comprise communication elements for receiving information from the database elements, such as, for example, for receiving a warning instruction. The smart package may additionally comprise an attention receiver, such as a LED component or a sound producing element, whereby it can produce a warning to the user to use smart package content on the basis of instruction information. thus received from/from the database elements.
In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the monitoring system is capable of comparing location data from both the smart package and the other user terminal unit, such as a mobile communicator, on the basis of information thus received to from these or from such base stations. The system can produce, for example, an alarm in the event that said pieces of location data deviate from each other by more than what has been prescribed, especially at a time when, in accordance with the instruction to use smart packaging content, some smart packaging contents should have been removed from said smart packaging. In particular, an alarm can be triggered by a situation in which a pill was taken from the smart package at a certain location, but the user or his/her mobile communicator was located at that particular moment at least at a pre- determined out from said location of the smart package. The alarm can be, for example, a warning type alarm or a requisition type alarm to the user and/or to some third party, such as special care personnel, a protector, or an insurance company.
Specifically, an exemplary method of the present invention comprises storing identification information in database elements regarding the smart package of the system, such as, for example, information about a SIM card included in the smart package and/or other information of packaging identification. In addition, in the database elements information can be stored for using said smart packaging content, such as, for example, a medical prescription together with its dosage instructions and time attributes, time intervals in accordance with which the content should be used as an instruction per se. Information regarding a usage of smart package content can be connected with said smart package identification information. Through communication elements, it is possible to deliver information from said smart package to said database elements, considering, for example, the identification of a smart package or a communication module included in it, and as well as the removal of a pill, by means of which said smart package can be identified by database elements on the basis of information that has been supplied by means of said communication elements, such as on the basis of ID information of a package or on information from a SIM card included in the module, such as a GSM module, present in the package.
The holder or smart package of the present invention preferably also comprises a power source for supplying electrical energy to said components of the package. In addition, this comprises a data processing means, such as a microcircuit, for measuring electrical changes in the support. Said data processing means may be adapted to also identify said removed object on the basis of a specific electrical change effected by said removed object in one of the electrical lines or circuits of said smart support or package.
It should be noted that the smart packaging used in the monitoring system, or at least its support that has pill identification elements and components, is most preferably a fiber-based or plastic-based support, comprising cardboard or paper or similar material based on fiber. It should particularly be noted that, in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the carrier comprises a coupling unit for coupling said data transfer elements, such as a GSM module or the like, to the carrier, by for example, for the duration of use of the medication package, whereby, after the use of the medication package, the data transfer elements can be disengaged from the package to connect them, for example, to a new package , and the worn packaging can be recycled, for example, together with recyclable cardboard, or incinerated. The coupling unit can be manufactured from the same recyclable and environmentally sound material as smart packaging or its support as such, and its conductor lines can be constructed by printing technology methods similar to those used for printing its other components as such. DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION

The module can be, for example, a GSM, GPRS or UMTS module that is capable of communicating with a base station included in a mobile communication system. Alternatively, or additionally, the package may also feature a data transfer solution based on short band RF technology, such as RFFID or NFCf technique whereby the package is able to communicate with some other RFIS device , NFC or similar devices (106). The package may also include a cable data transfer medium, such as a USB interface. In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the device (106) can be, for example, a device measuring the physiological functions of the packaging user, from which the smart packaging can inquire measurement data, for example, in conjunction with removing a content unit and supplying the database elements not only with information regarding the removal of a content unit, but also information regarding the user's functions, such as, for example, heart rate information or other information , which it receives after inquiry from the device (106) . It may also be the case where the sensors measuring physiological functions talk to the device (106) in a centralized manner, and the device (106) then delivers the information, which has been collected from the sensors, in a mounted way to the smart packaging insofar as the latest inquires information.
It should particularly be noted that, in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the carrier comprises a coupling unit (102b) for coupling said data transfer elements to the carrier, for example for the duration of use of medication packaging, whereby, after using the medication packaging, the data transfer elements can be disengaged from the packaging for connection thereof, for example, to a new packaging, and the worn packaging can be recycled , for example, together with recyclable cardboard, or incinerated.
The smart package (as shown in Figure 2) is preferably adapted to detect said removal of a pill and to supply information to said database elements (104) via said communication elements (102a, 103), considering a removal. of said content unit. Said smart package can be identified by means of said database elements (104) on the basis of information that has been delivered by means of said communication elements. The smart package can transmit, for example, a package identification string or, alternatively, its communication elements (102a) can transmit specific identification data, such as data from a SIM card, in connection with transmission of other information.
